Roy Ayers, Goldie, Jazzie B and more at the Somerset music festival
Shindig Festival’s lineup for its seventh year includes both established artists and rising stars.
The festival will run from 21–24 May 2020 this year and be held at a new location in Somerset, the Dillington Estate, 50 miles south of Bristol.
Headlining the festival is acid jazz pioneer Roy Ayers, ‘The Godfather of Neo Soul’. Having started recording as a bebop sideman in 60s LA, he went on to popularise 70s feel-good jazz-funk music and also ventured into early 00s house music. His best-known records include Everybody Loves The Sunshine and Searching, and has collaborated with Herbie Mann, Fela Kuti and Eryka Badhu among others.
Jungle, drum and bass and breakout hardcore artist Goldie will make an appearance, as will Nightmares on Wax who celebrates the 25th anniversary of trip-hop album Smokers Delight this year.
Jazzie B, the founder of Soul II Soul, will be spinning a selection of doo-wop soul and old-school funk. From running sound systems in the 70’s, to creating a record label and clothing line and hosting a show on Kiss FM, there are no limits for Jazzie B.
On the dance floor will be Shindig regular and electro-funk forerunner Greg Wilson, who is currently fulfilling a residency at Manchester’s Hacienda.
Will Lardner, festival co-founder says: “I’m so excited about 2020. It’s the most diverse line up we’ve ever seen. From gospel choirs to Shindig regulars and everything in between: pioneers, legends and luminaries, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to dance the weekend away in beautiful new surroundings.”
The festival will take place at the Dillington Estate, a family-owned working farm and estate covering around 3,000 acres in south Somerset, near Ilminster. Shindig punters will be able to stay in the 16th-century house and hotel, pitch their own tent, or book into boutique camping.
