Demand grows for homes in South Wales following Severn Bridge toll changes, says David Wilson Homes
With Severn Bridge tolls set to be scrapped completely by the end of 2018, it is no surprise that an increasing number of buyers from the Bristol area are looking further afield for their next home.
Five-star housebuilder David Wilson Homes say they are experiencing increased demand for new-build properties at developments across the border. Buyers are attracted, they say, to the value-for-money, beautiful setting, and easy commuting links South Wales offers to buyers from Bristol.
Average house prices in Wales are lower than England and council tax and basic expenses are all generally lower than the UK average. There are other ‘hidden’ benefits a move to Wales can bring such as free NHS prescriptions and free university tuition for Welsh students.
“In anticipation of free bridge crossings later this year, we’ve noticed a rise in the number of buyers asking about our developments in South Wales,” says sales director Richard Lawson.
“Many are still keen to maintain links with Bristol – with work, family and friends in the city – but seek to take advantage of the lower house prices and beautiful locations here. We offer stylish homes to suit a wide range of lifestyles – from first time buyers to growing families. And, with a choice of great locations to choose from, we’re expecting demand to rise still further over the coming months.”
“In South Wales you are never far from spectacular coastline, beautiful countryside and all local amenities,” adds Richard. “And now, with even easier transport links to English towns and cities like Bristol, Gloucester, Cheltenham and Bath, it makes perfect sense for buyers to cross the Severn and put down roots. We’re looking forward to welcoming more new residents from across the border as we head towards the autumn and winter months.”
David Wilson Homes is currently building new homes in South Wales at King’s Wood Gate in Monmouth, The Acres in Penperlleni and Springfield Gardens in St Mellons.
