The impressive new development takes its name from the prestigious Douglas Motorcycle plant that was once based on this sprawling site, writes James Higgins

With east Bristol becoming increasingly desirable for first-time buyers and young families, it is no surprise that this area’s brownfield sites are being transformed into unique new communities. The latest is Douglas Quarter, which is located on the grounds of the former Douglas Motorcycle factory, near to the centre of Kingswood.

For years, this sprawling factory was the hub of one of Bristol’s most impressive brands. The company’s origins can be traced as far back as the 1880s, when two brothers created Douglas Engineering Company. From these humble origins, this Kingswood-based company emerged as a global brand. In 1933, Robert Edison Fulton Jnr rode into the history books when he circumnavigated the globe on one of Douglas Motorcycle’s bikes.

The site’s heyday may have passed, but the new Douglas Quarter promises an exciting future for the huge location. This new development will feature a range of one- and two-bedroom apartments, three-bedroom houses and four-bedroom townhouses.

Phase one has already been sold and now phase two is available to prospective buyers. These properties come with a 10-year LABC New Homes Warranty and fall within the Help to Buy scheme.

The properties offer flexible accommodation, and particular attention has been paid to the quality and finish of the fixtures and fittings. All the properties include a Howdens-designed kitchen which incorporates leading branded appliances, fitted bathrooms with white sanitaryware, painted interiors walls and carpet and vinyl flooring. The homes are also equipped with smoke and heat detectors, TV points and LED lighting.

The development is ideally located within half a mile of local amenities like Kings Chase shopping centre and is well-served by a multitude of bus routes linking Kingswood to the city centre. The nearest railway station is at Keynsham, four-and-a-half miles from the development. Douglas Quarter’s proximity to the A4174 means it is within a five-minute drive of one of Bristol’s most important trunk routes. What’s more, Douglas Quarter has also been designed to ensure every home has its own allocated parking space.
