QEH appoints Adrian Jarvis as Director of Rugby

Adrian will oversee coaching and game plans from the Junior School to the 1st XV

The governors at Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital are delighted to announce the appointment of Adrian Jarvis as Director of Rugby.  Adrian, who recently retired from Bristol after sixteen outstanding seasons in professional rugby, will oversee coaching and game plans for pupils from the Junior School to the 1st XV.

Adrian started his career at Harlequins in 2001.  He was a key member of the England U21 Six Nations team that won the Grand Slam in 2004 and was selected for the England Saxons squad in 2008.  His club career included Harlequins, Bristol, Leeds Carnegie and London Irish, prior to his return to Bristol in 2012.  Adrian has made over 150 appearances for Bristol and scored 1000 points for the club.

“I’m looking forward to working with the staff and students at QEH,” Adrian said. “There’s huge participation in sport from the boys throughout the school and so many staff enthusiastically commit to coaching.  We’ll be working together to develop rugby skills, as well as general health and fitness.  I’ll be in the school gym, bright and early every morning for strength and conditioning sessions, before heading up to the sports grounds at Failand!”

Headmaster, Stephen Holliday, commented, “Adrian Jarvis is a welcome addition to QEH.  His appointment is just one of the significant steps we are taking to further develop sport here.   We recently appointed Julia Bowkett, an ex-international netball player, to design and implement the sport programme for the Sixth Form girls, who are joining us this September.  Our governors are also keen to provide artificial surfaces to enhance our grounds at Failand, where we are partnered with Bristol City Football Club.”

He went on, “However, we are determined that one important element won’t change – we will preserve the spirit of QEH sport which is to play for the love of the game, to play fairly, to involve as many pupils as possible of all abilities and, if we can, to win as a bonus!”
