New student letting service saves time and hassle

Conker helps to pair trustworthy students with landlords to make the student letting system easier

Conker – the new student letting and management service from Unite Students – can save landlords more than a third in agency costs, plus time and hassle.

Conker is the new student lettings and management service from Unite Students. It’s designed to do three things: give landlords and student tenants a great experience, save time and hassle, and generate a strong return on the property.

Unite Students is the UK’s largest accommodation provider of its kind that houses more than 50,000 students. Every year, these students leave halls of residence and are actively looking to rent a private property for their second, and potentially third years of study. Conker is a credible, go-to lettings service for landlords to rent out their properties directly to students, without the hassle. Unite Students has more than 27 years’ experience in student accommodation and will use its network for Conker to connect landlords and students. And the service can check the history of students if they’ve previously lived with the company – so no nasty surprises once they’re in their new home.

Conker offers a chance to get to Unite Students approved tenants, and any unpaid rent and damage they might cause to the property is covered. On average, landlords pay £3,300 per property for a letting agent to find tenants and manage their properties*. With Conker, these costs are reduced by more than a third. There’s also no upfront cost involved – Conker simply deducts a flat fee per bedroom, per tenancy from the rental income.

Not only can Conker find the student tenants with ease, but the service also ensures the property is well cared for throughout the tenancy by managing inventories and conducting regular property visits, carried out by a local expert. If there are any maintenance queries or emergencies, Conker will triage the situation and decide on the best course of action, leaving the landlord with more time, and without the hassle of managing the property.

In addition, Unite Students has a mission to provide a Home for Success for students.  The Conker service means students continue to receive support after their first year of study. By providing a high quality, safe home for students, together landlords and Conker can give a strong foundation for academic and personal success.

The service launched in Bristol early in 2018 and has been focusing on signing landlords and their properties, as well as raising awareness with student communities.  Within one month of launch in Bristol, the model was so successful that Conker has since launched in London and Bath much earlier than originally planned.
