New headteacher for local prep school

Debbie Isaachsen will start her new position at The Downs Preparatory School in September

The chairman and board of governors of The Downs Preparatory School
have announced the appointment of Debbie Isaachsen as the next headteacher of The Downs Preparatory School from September.

Mrs Isaachsen is currently head of Heatherton School and also sits on the Berkhamsted Schools Group executive team, which Heatherton School is a part of. Previously to this she has been head of the Lower School and the deputy head of the pre-prep at Cheltenham College Prep School. 

Hailing from Plymouth, Mrs Isaachsen attended The College of St Mark and St John, going on to graduate with a BEd (Hons) from the University of Exeter. She was an active member of the University Officers’ Training Corps during her time at university.

Most recently she has completed a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Buckinghamshire. A keen sportswoman, Debbie enjoys skiing, netball, walking and embraces challenging outdoor pursuits.

Mark Burchfield, chairman of governors said: “After a rigorous selection process we are delighted to have appointed Debbie to the post of headteacher. My fellow governors and I felt that Debbie’s outstanding abilities, strong personal values and qualities fitted our requirements exactly and we look forward to Debbie leading The Downs into the next stage of its development.”

Marcus Gunn will continue in his position as headteacher at The Downs until his retirement this summer, after 19 years in the role.
