Richmond Grove blends traditional exteriors with stylish, twenty-first century interiors

Brand new homes in Mangotsfield, designed to combine the external character of the South Gloucestershire village’s old-established villas with the twenty-first century layout and facilities demanded by today’s families, have proved to be a hit with local house-hunters.

Housebuilder Cotswold Homes says it was ‘overwhelmed’ by the number of people who turned up to view the firm’s newly-opened showhome during a launch event at its Richmond Grove development on the junction of Richmond Road and St James Street, formerly a derelict school building.

Terri Hayes-Pugh, the company’s sales and marketing director commented: “Already we are in discussions with a number of people who are keen to reserve one of the new homes under construction.

“Many of them have properties to sell first but we are able to help them with our Assisted Move service, part of our popular GameChanger package. This means that, subject to terms and conditions, we can offer help with moving costs such as estate agency fees, stamp duty or carpets.

“Furthermore, for buyers who make use of the Government’s Help-to-Buy scheme only a five per cent deposit is required.”

Terri reported that many visitors commented that they were inspired by the interior design and finishes selected for the showhome which she describes as ‘aspirational but attainable.’

The showhome interior has been created by Becky Astley of locally-based Jane Clayton & Company.

Becky commented: “I designed it with young working families and professionals in mind. It features a mix of contemporary furniture with a Scandinavian feel of the type which is very on trend and available in a number of retail outlets currently. Botanical references, which feature a lot in the artwork and styling, are being seen a lot in interiors in 2019.”

On the ground floor – finished throughout with wood-effect vinyl flooring – the three-storey showhome features a spacious room which has been described as ‘a wow-factor multi-use family room’ occupying the full width of the house.

It is linked to the kitchen-dining suite which, designed for smart dining, is finished with a full range of integrated appliances – oven, hob, fridge-freezer, washer-drier and integrated dishwasher. French doors and window lights not only flood the room with natural light but provide access to the garden for al fresco dining.

The master bedroom suite on the first floor features a fitted wardrobe and an en suite with an over-size shower enclosure and chrome towel rail. French doors open on to a Juliet balcony overlooking the garden.

On the same floor, aware of the need to create versatile accommodation which meets the changing needs of a growing family, Cotswold Homes has planned the full-width room at the front of the house so that it could be used either as a spacious lounge or an additional bedroom. In the showhome Becky has made it what she describes as ‘a living room with a “grown-up” feel for adults to enjoy.’

In contrast she has included a tepee and a swing hanging from the ceiling among features in one of the two top-floor bedrooms which has a fun woodland theme likely to appeal to children.

The double bedroom on this floor has a cosy ‘under the eaves’ feel as well as a fitted wardrobe and a built-in storage space.

Across the landing – which has two built-in floor-to-ceiling cupboards – the family bathroom on the top floor has a bath, shower and chrome towel rail.

The gardens at Richmond Grove, enclosed for safety and privacy, are supplied ready-turfed, each with an external water tap. Two private parking spaces are provided with each home.

With a vibrant community on the doorstep and local amenities within a short walk – with more in nearby Downend and Emerson’s Green – Richmond Grove residents are expected to be well-served by public transport; a nearby bus-stop provides access to central Bristol.

  • Prices of the new homes at Richmond Grove start at £339,000.
