The team behind the highly-anticipated restaurant is collaborating with celebrated local street artist, Jody Thomas
Opening in Spring 2019, Masa + Mezcal will bring artisanal Mexican food and drink to Stokes Croft, from Kieran and Imogen Waite, the husband and wife duo behind some of Bristol’s best loved restaurants including Bravas, Bakers and Co, Cargo Cantina and Gambas. The collaboration with Bristol born graffiti artist Jody is the latest in a series of local collaborations for the team, following the announcement of a specially created house beer, Masa, from local brewery Good Chemistry Brewing.
Jody is working on the specially designed piece of street art all week, which will see the exterior of the restaurant in the site previously occupied by Corner 77 on Stokes Croft covered in fruits and vegetables; a nod to Masa + Mezcal’s passion for fresh, heirloom produce and a reflection of ingredients which will be used in dishes on the menu.
Speaking about the collaboration, founder Kieran commented:
“We wanted to work with Jody as we love his work, and being from Bristol, we felt he was the perfect fit, and and his style will bring something different but also complementary to Stokes Croft and its existing street art.
“All our food is hand made from scratch so having something detailed and hand painted on the outside of the restaurant showing heirloom, artisanal produce fits perfectly with our ethos.
“Jodie began painting in the 90’s at Barton Hill Youth Club alongside other Bristol artists: Inkie, Cheo and Banksy and we felt with some of their work already in the area it’ll be great to have another notorious Bristol street artist showcase their work in Stokes Croft.”
Masa + Mezcal is due to open on Thursday 14th March – online bookings can be made here.
