Pieminister and UKHarvest want you to eat a pie to give a pie this summer
Pieminister has launched three new summer pies in a bid to help UKHarvest ‘nourish our nation’. Every time someone buys one of these summer specials, the award-winning pie makers will donate another pie to UKHarvest through a joint initiative they’re calling A Pie for a Pie. UKHarvest distributes good quality food to UK charities and Pieminister has pledged to donate 10,000 pies to them to help provide much needed nourishment to those who need it the most.
The three new pies are available until the end of August and can be found on Pieminister’s café and restaurant menus. They can also be delivered to your door via their online shop.Created especially for the summer months, they are:
- Mexicow: a chilli con carne pie made with British beef, beer & Cheddar
- Thai Chook: a Thai green curry pie made with free range British chicken pie
- Feta Attraction: a vegetarian feta, spinach, chickpea & squash pie with pine nuts & sun-dried tomato
Like Pieminister’s range of classics, these summer specials are encased in their famous pastries and made using British, responsibly-sourced ingredients. In Pieminister’s restaurants, the pies are part of a summer menu featuring a selection of light, seasonal sides, created to compliment pies during the warmer months of the year. Continuing this theme, the three specials come with a tzatziki dip on the side – a sunny alternative to gravy!
Jon Simon, Pieminister Co-founder and MD said,
“A Pie for a Pie might just be the tastiest, easiest way to help others this summer. We have pledged to donate 10,000 pies to UKHarvest so that together we can feed even more people with good quality food. To help us reach our target, all you need to do is eat pies. It’s that simple! Supporting ‘A Pie for a Pie’ (with your pie-eating prowess) means we can help UKHarvest on their mission to eliminate hunger and food waste in the UK”
Pieminister customers will also spot Pie for a Pie box stickers when picking up their favourite pies in selected Waitrose branches, Sainsbury’s stores and other retailers nationwide. The stickers will encourage customers to pledge a pie on Pieminister’s website so that Pieminister can pledge yet more pies to UKHarvest on the customer’s behalf.
Yvonne Thomson, CEO UKHarvest said,
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Pieminister. Their support will enable us to deliver more nutritional meals to the charities we work with every day, feeding thousands of people in need.”
Pieminister is a family business that strives to be as responsible and ethical as possible. Every summer Pieminister launches a campaign in support of a chosen charity. In recent years, Pieminister has funded 30 farms in Western Kenya for Send a Cow, planted a Pieminister forest of over 57,000 trees in Northern Malawi and raised over £5,000 for Shelter, the Housing & Homelessness Charity. Pieminister also supports hundreds of local and national initiatives, donating over 20,000 pies to good causes in 2016 as part of their on-going ‘Little Acts of Pie-ness’.
The family business has also made it their policy to always source their ingredients responsibly. Pieminister is the only national pie company to always use free range British meat and holds three Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards as a result. They also make excellent Vegetarian Society Approved meat free pies and their gluten free pies (officially the best Free From pies in Britain according to the British Pie Awards) are certified by the Coeliac Society. And as if that’s not enough reason to try one, every single Pieminister pie is a Great Taste Award winner.
