A new era for the iconic British Homecentre has begun, following the launch of their multi-department showroom and new branding
2019 marks a new era for one of Bristol’s longest established independent retailers. Having served the city’s residents for almost two centuries, Gardiner Haskins Homecentre is taking their long-established, independent business in a new direction. Opening in 1825, the company has had a long and varied history, undergoing several changes, names and incarnations along the way. From its origins as an ironmongery, (even providing Isambard Kingdom Brunel with drawing instruments) to joining the Second World War effort in producing military equipment and finally evolving to the multi department Homecentre that many modern Bristolians know it as today.
A staple of the Bristol retail landscape, the latest chapter in the company’s story comes in the form of the recent launch of a £1m multi-department showroom and the transition from ‘Homecentre’ to their new ‘Gardiner Haskins Interiors’ branding. The change sees the company take on a new and exciting challenge – moving from their Homecentre persona to providing customers with luxury interiors for their home whilst still maintaining the same level of personality and customer service they are known and loved for.
The new showrooms will focus exclusively on providing customers with high quality fitted kitchens, fitted bathrooms and luxury bed and mattress showrooms, as well as a made-to-measure curtains and blinds service.
Gardiner Haskins Interiors’ Managing Director Ben Allen says of company’s new direction: “We are really looking forward to the exciting changes that come with this new era of the business. The company has undergone many transformations over the years to grow and improve and this is another step in that progression. The new showrooms have taken a lot of planning and hard work and we’re delighted with the outcome. We feel they are the perfect place to inspire our customers and provide them with everything they need to create their dream home. Although the company is going in a new direction in terms of the products we are providing in Bristol, we are still maintaining the same level of exceptional and personal customer service that we have for the last 193 years. Our new tag line ‘Inspiring homes since 1825’ perfectly reflects us being a part of the Bristol retail landscape for so long.”
Situated in the historic Brunel Rooms, the new showrooms were inspired by the history of both the company and the building itself. Showroom Manager Richard Harris explains the design choices involved in the project: “When designing how the showroom itself would look, we wanted to keep as much of the building’s character as possible, such as the large, stone archways which let a lot of natural light in and the ‘Manhattan loft’ feel of the top-floor bed showroom. As a company steeped in the history of Bristol, everything we have created here has been designed with that heritage in mind, which is what I feel positions us as the best showroom in Bristol.”
The showrooms are open seven days a week and are filled with the biggest British and world-leading brands. Knowledgeable bed experts are on hand to help customers choose the perfect bed or mattress for them. The showrooms will also be home to a selection of luxury tiles and flooring options, as well as custom paint mixing – giving customers the chance to totally revamp their homes. The expert team of in-house fitted kitchen, bathroom and curtain designers provide a totally bespoke service – working with the customer to create their dream designs.
