Sam secures his first home with Help to Buy at Crest Nicholson's Paintworks
First time buyer Sam Barham has recently moved into his new home at Crest Nicholson’s Paintworks in Bristol. He selected Paintworks based on its artistic ethos, and since living at the development has helped to design elements of one of the iconic commercial buildings located in the community plaza.
Sam had been living in Bristol for a few years, before he decided it was time to escape the rent cycle and get a foot on the property ladder. With rent prices steadily increasing in Bristol, Sam realised purchasing a property had long term financial benefits compared to renting. Keen to stay in Bristol, Paintworks felt like the perfect choice to Sam thanks to its location close to the vibrant city centre. Paintworks is just half a mile from Bristol Temple Mead station, which has direct links to Cardiff and London. Cabot Circus is also under a mile away, with a selection of shopping outlets and Michelin-starred restaurants.
“There are many exciting improvements taking place in Bristol over the next few years, so it made sense to stay in the city. The high-speed trains to London will be a game changer and will transform Bristol into one of the capitals of the UK,” explained Sam.
Paintworks is an eclectic collection of apartments and houses located on the banks of the River Avon. Surrounded by Bristol’s buzzing creative community, known locally as Paintworks, the development’s internal and external décor is inspired by local artists and designers.
Sam previously lived in a house share in Stokes Croft, an area close to the City Centre also known for its eclecticism, so he was keen that his new home also had a strong sense of artistic community.
“I had visited Paintworks few times, and had always thought it would be a great place to live. After I stumbled upon an advertisement for the new development, I registered immediately,” commented Sam. Within six months of registering his interest at Crest Nicholson Paintworks, Sam moved into a stunning two-bedroom apartment overlooking the River Avon. He adds, “The process was straight forward, and the sales team were helpful with useful advice and tips throughout the buying process.”
Sam used the Government’s Help to Buy scheme to purchase his new two-bedroom home, commenting he “would not have been able to afford it without the scheme”. The scheme enables potential homebuyer to purchase a new build home worth up to £600,000 with just a 5% deposit. Homebuyers are also eligible for a 20% interest free government loan, whilst the remaining 75% can be covered with a mortgage. Available to first time buyers and ‘second steppers’ alike, Help to Buy enables homebuyers to get a foot on the property ladder.
Whilst living at Paintworks, Sam helped to design aspects of a commercial building on the development. “Whilst working at my previous employer Artwork Solutions, I had the unique opportunity to help create props for one of the commercial buildings at Paintworks. I’d just moved into my new two-bed flat at Paintworks so naturally was excited to work on the project. Along with a team at Artwork Solutions, we designed and created the ‘knobs’ that are now on an eye-catching TV shaped building at Paintworks”.
Prices for a one-bedroom apartment start from £235,000 or £188,000 with Help to Buy. For more information, please visit www.crestnicholson.com/paintworks/ Paintworks@crestnicholson.com.
