We discover three of Bristol’s secret pub gardens – perfect for enjoying with friends

Check out our trio of pubs with unexpected hidden gardens…

The Angel Inn

172 Long Ashton Road, Long Ashton, Bristol, BS41 9LT

Just four miles from central Bristol, yet lying within the boundaries of North Somerset in the village of Long Ashton, you will find The Angel Inn. With origins dating back to 1495, this traditional village pub – which once imprisoned village troublemakers in its cellar – is now known for serving ale and traditional good food.

As well as a beer garden to sit in and enjoy your favourite summer tipple, it also has a ‘secret garden’ for you to enjoy, tucked away behind an archway. Perfect to enjoy with family and friends or for a special celebration.

The Lion Tavern

19 Church Ln, Cliftonwood

Set in the community of Cliftonwood, this cosy family-run pub has a gem of a garden hidden from street view – perfect for relaxing in on a balmy evening.

Voted as one of Bristol’s top 10 places to eat by Culture Trip, the Lion Tavern gastropub offers homemade food, all cooked from scratch. Culinary delights include its famous Scotch eggs and Sunday lunches, to an ‘off the wall’ range of burgers. Pair with one of its lovingly selected wines or carefully nurtured cask ales? Enjoy!

The Secret Garden

Located at the back of the Square Club, off Berkeley Square

Drink and dine al fresco at Bristol’s new pop-up outdoor venue, The Secret Garden, which is tucked away off Berkeley Square. The ambient vibe and décor will remind you of holidays past, and as it is heated and covered, you can visit no matter the weather!

You will find a comprehensive food menu, including vegan and vegetarian dishes, offering small plates, sandwiches and burgers to whole roast poussin or red potato and truffle gnocchi.

Plus, it is open for Sunday brunch. Also on offer is range of cocktails from the classic Espresso Martini to the more adventurous, the Smoke in the Orchard!

The ‘secret’ venue offers a unique way to meet with family or friends, in a warm, comfortable yet vibrant setting.
