Outlier

WhereBristol Old Vic
When: From 12-26 June
Price: £8 (book to experience live broadcast or in person at the theatre)
Age: 14+

Please note: includes emotionally intense scenes relating to drugs and alcohol, isolation and grief. Flashing lights.

“The powerful poetics of Malaika Kegode and soaring music of Bristol band Jakabol combine in this autobiographical gig-theatre show directed by Jenny Davies. Outlier explores the impact of isolation, addiction and friendship on young people in the often-forgotten places.

“Mal, Ama, Lewis and Oskar have grown up together; hedonistically charging through life in rural Devon. Living from party to party, they’re railing against the stories that have been written for them as they stand at the precipice of adulthood. But all the space can be suffocating, and it’s tough sometimes – feeling so low in a place so beautiful.”

Angie Seaway art exhibition

Where: The Tobacco Factory
When: Now til Monday 28 Jun 2021
Price: free entry

Angie Seaway is an Expressive Landscape artist, who paints the British obsession with the weather. After extensive traveling, she realised that as a country we comment upon it frequently and her paintings are a celebration of that. The titles are derived from snippets of daily weather forecasts which she hopes are as descriptive and evocative as the paintings themselves.

She lives near the coastline and paints in response to the influence of the ever-changing elements in the South West landscape. Her paintings reflect the impact of the weather on the scene being portrayed and the dance between sea, sand and sky and her emotional and expressive response to it. In the era of climate change and our responses to it, they are also thought provoking.
