The celebrations are starting in full swing next week with a free morning breakfast disco
To kick start the 150th anniversary this September, Colston Hall will host a free morning breakfast disco outside the venue on Wednesday 6 September.
The one-off event will feature Vibe Roulette, a disco with a twist: spin the wheel to select a genre of music between the 1950s and present day, then let the DJs do the rest… Discover the kaleidoscopic variety of music that has graced Colston Hall across the decades from hip hop to synthpop, swing bands to drum ‘n’ bass, from The Beatles to Bowie and The Rolling Stones to Take That.
The breakfast disco will take place from 7.45am to 9.30am outside the main Colston Hall Foyer, with free coffee provided by the Colston Street Bar & Kitchen, operated by Bath Ales. The perfect excuse for a pre-work espresso-fuelled boogie, DJs Slurp and Nick Terrific will present their musical wheel of fortune alongside MC’s Rocky Patch and 3pZero. There couldn’t be a better way to limber up and start your working day than on the dancefloor.
The 150th Breakfast Disco will kick off Colston Hall’s 150th Anniversary celebrations in September ahead of the free 150th Birthday Bash on Wednesday 20th September, exactly 150 years from when the doors first opened.
The free 150th Birthday Bash will see a complete takeover of the building, to which everyone is invited, giving people the chance to explore every corner, stumbling across musicians, DJs, installations and projections, as acts pop up to create a unique party atmosphere. The evening will include performances by The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain playing the greatest hits of Colston Hall and other favourites, The Bruce/Illet Big Band, Bristol Ensemble, projections by Limbic Cinema, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s Brass Ensemble, Bristol Choral Society and Wanted Records’ DJ John Stapleton.
As well as the 150th Birthday Bash on Wednesday 20th September, the celebrations will continue with the Big Anniversary Sing with BBC Radio Bristol on Wednesday 23 September as well as a Bristol music takeover of the building on Saturday 7th October. The best of Bristol’s bands and record labels, as well as some friends from further afield will take control of the venue, including sets from This Is The Kit, Hot Chip DJs, Francois and the Atlas Mountains, Bass Clef and Yama Warashi, as well as an SWU FM takeover of Colston Hall’s old box office featuring Smith & Mighty, Pinch and more
