The city’s prestigious music centre and venue has a riveting festive programme this month...
This year Colston Hall have put together a supreme line-up of musical events set to warm your soul and thrill your senses — it’s a potent mixture of Christmassy glee and not-so-festive merriment, and features plenty to suit all ears!
On 15 December The Overtones will bring their stunning voices to Bristol for a jam-packed evening of harmonies, dulcet tones and rich Christmas classics — if you enjoy the musical titans of the ‘50s and ‘60s, then you’ll adore these modern maestros making magical music for the whole family. It’s set to be a stunning night — and a rare chance to see numbers like Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas and Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire performed live by artists that can do the originals justice!
The following night sees the illustrious London Symphony Orchestra take to the stage for Fate Beckons, a night featuring two of Mozart’s violin concertos (one and four), and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.4. Although not strictly festive — in fact it’s rather dark in places — this will nevertheless be an unforgettable evening featuring some of the finest musicians in the country.
17 December sees The Messiah arrive at Colston Hall thanks to the Bristol Choral Society and the Corelli Orchestra. Handel’s iconic work has been performed by the choir almost every year since the late 1800s — it’s something of a tradition in the city, and no Christmas can kick-off properly without enjoying this masterpiece! An afternoon concert specially for little ones and families is also scheduled.
If you’re looking for a pre-Christmas boogie then The Bootleg Beatles’ show on 18 December will surely get you excited! The pre-eminent tribute act, with over 4,000 gigs under their belts and applause from Sirs Paul McCartney and George Martin (the Fab Four’s producer), provide new generations a way to enjoy the magic
of The Beatles.
