The café-bar empire offer work-based courses and apprenticeships to help employees succeed

Grounded are incredibly excited to announce their new catering and hospitality academy. As an established chain of café-bars with eleven sites in Thornbury, Bristol, and Wiltshire for 11 years, this local business has concreted themselves in the local community. Grounded have announced exciting plans for them to open a further five new café-bars over the next two years across the South West.

“For Grounded it’s all about the teams in their sites. When you visit any establishment, you don’t care about who owns or operates the business. You’re interested in the ladies and gentlemen that serve and cook for you,” Tobie Holbrook the founder of Grounded commented. Tobie, a Bristol entrepreneur, continued: “We always recognise this when recruiting. It’s vital for us to have the right team for the right role. Often Grounded come across applicants that have the perfect attitude and outlook but may not have the qualifications or experience. We see these people as a fresh opportunity, we invest in them with training and development, and Grounded are very proud that, over the years, many who have joined us at a junior level have been promoted time and time again up the ranks to senior positions. Grounded are very proud of our numerous head chefs that joined us as trainee chefs and a number of managers that started out as baristas.”

Grounded have now teamed up with Hit Training to provide some more formal qualifications to help empower individuals to develop their career in hospitality.

Now offering apprenticeships for hospitality management, hospitality supervisors, hospitality team members, production chefs and senior chefs in production cooking, there are five separate courses for all levels with the hospitality sector. Grounded’s new courses can be found at Grounded Thornbury, 7 High Street.

In all of their other cafés there are paid, work-based courses and they are now recruiting for front of house team members and chefs. Tobie concluded: “Grounded do hope that the new intake of apprentices will be with them for many years and grow their skills as we grow the business”.
