Bristol SouthBank club hosts new fitness classes


Bristol local, Anna MacGregor to teach joyful cardio workout inspired by vintage vibes and street dances

Bristol will be one of the first places in the country to offer a new and joyful cardio fitness workout from a BBC Dragons’ Den success.

SwingTrain is an elating exercise experience accompanied by the vintage vibes of swing, gospel, rhythm & blues and jazz – a marked difference to the electronic music that dominates the majority of cardio exercise classes. The fitness regime has been developed by Scott Cupit, the award winning dance teacher and entrepreneur whose pitch for Swing Patrol – the dance school and events company – secured investment from Deborah Meaden on BBC Dragon’s Den. Duncan Bannatyne wanted to try swing in health clubs and Piers Linney was looking for “the Zumba of Swing”. Now, SwingTrain is launching under the guidance of investor Deborah Meaden, and local fitness instructor Anna MacGregor has been selected as the first SwingTrainer in Bristol.

The SwingTrain total body workouts are inclusive and suitable for all levels of fitness and coordination. No dance or fitness class experience is required whatsoever. Qualified SwingTrain fitness instructors lead participants through a series of fun, follow-along moves inspired by the vintage street dances of Charleston, lindy hop, and shag. The full body cardio workouts exercise legs, arms and core, as well as developing coordination and mental agility through memorable routines. Each SwingTrain session lasts for an hour, including warm-up and warm-down time.

SwingTrain creator Scott Cupit said, “Anna MacGregor is a truly talented and very friendly fitness instructor with a passion for building a local community of SwingTrainees and motivating them to achieve their fitness goals. She will be running her own SwingTrain business, so hopefully we’re bringing a little bit of Dragons’ Den’s entrepreneurial spirit to Bristol, not just a new fitness regime.”

Anna MacGregor said, “We’ll be fostering friendships as well as fitness at the SouthBank Club SwingTrain sessions. The music and atmosphere is designed to be supportive and uplifting, so that participants won’t even realise they’re burning up to 500 calories an hour because they’re smiling so much. The best thing about SwingTrain is that it’s accessible to everyone, no matter their age, fitness levels or abilities. We will always warmly welcome absolute beginners to fitness. All that’s required is a desire for a positive experience.”

Weekly classes will take place every Friday at 9.45am at SouthBank Club, Dean Lane, BS3 1DB, starting on 13th January. Classes cost just £6.
