Bring the noise

Some of the best up-and-coming bands and artists from around the world arrive in Bristol over the bank holiday weekend

Festival season’s in full swing now, with massive events across the city celebrating everything from German culture to vegan and vegetarian lifestyles — but there’s still lots to come! This bank holiday weekend there are two of Bristol’s best musical extravaganzas: Dot To Dot and Love Saves The Day.

Dot To Dot hops across three cities across the UK during the weekend, stopping in Bristol on Saturday 27 May to take over the centre’s best venues. Some of the biggest and brightest names in British music are playing at the one-dayer, with indie upstarts Sundara Karma and Scottish rockers Honeyblood among the performers. As well as more established acts, the festival is a bustling hub of fresh noises, with rising talents such as blog favourite Nilüfer Yanya and dreamy Northern Irish troupe Swimming Tapes a taste of what’s to come in the rest of 2017.

There are international faces too — Norway’s Sondre Lerche, for example — but the organisers of Dot To Dot are keen to shine a spotlight on each host city’s local scenes. Expect some of Bristol and the wider region’s finest artists — including She Makes War, Cousin Kula and Slonk — on the bill.

While Dot To Dot focuses on new music and discovery, Love Saves The Day brings serious party vibes. Taking place in Eastville Park across 27 and 28 May, the fest is rapidly gaining a reputation for being one of the best parties in the UK, and it’s easy to see why! This year’s mighty bash will have incendiary sets from Little Dragon, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Mura Masa, Kate Tempest, Kano, Raye, Nao and loads more!

It’s not all about the music at Love Saves The Day — although there’s lots of it! — with a roller disco, danceoff competitions, an inflatable church, theatre, cocktails, karaoke, a tattoo parlour, hairdressers, a ‘Brystal Maze’ and something called the Cosmic Launderette… dive straight into the action and soak up the inimitable spirit of Love Saves The Day!

When: 27 May / 27—28 May

Where: Various city centre venues / Eastville Park
