Be a beach beauty

Get prepped and primed to bare all on the beach with a few simple steps

The weather’s getting warmer, and it’s time to head off on holiday. But months of being wrapped up against the elements can take its toll on your skin and hair, so make sure you’re ready to bare all on the beach by giving your skin and hair a bit of TLC.

Get glowing

If you’ve let your exfoliating and moisturising regime slide over the winter you might find your skin looking rather dull and lacklustre, but no need to panic. It’s easy to fix. Exfoliate your whole body a couple of times a week to get rid of all those dead skin cells, and follow with a good layer of moisturiser. In just a few weeks your skin will be butter soft and glowing.

We love: Voya’s Time to Shine Body Buff, £22, The dual action lathering bodybuff exfoliates with finely ground walnut shells and nourishes skin with a blend of almond oil seaweed and ginger extracts revealing vividly refined softer, silky smooth skin.

Fake it

For a sun-kissed glow before stepping on the sand then fake it. Choose a product that has ingredients that will condition your skin as well as giving you a natural colour. And remember – build up the colour gradually. You can always add another layer if you want a darker shade, but it’s much more difficult to take it off!

We love: Lavera Self tanning Body Lotion, £13.59, The organic macademia and jojoba oils really nourish the skin!

Fight the fuzz

Everyone wants to achieve fuzz-free perfection before a bikini-clad vacation, but whichever method you choose, make sure you make sure you’re well-prepped and keep well moisturised afterwards to avoid irritation. Always defuzz at least 48 hours before sun exposure to give your skin time to recover.

We love: no!no! Micros, £149.99, This handy gadget uses thermicon heat technology to remove hair quickly and painlessly for salon-smooth results. It’s small enough to pop in the suitcase too in case you find you’ve missed a spot!

Luscious locks

Salt water and UV rays are a brutal combination and will leave your hair dehydrated and brittle, especially if you have colour in your hair. Make sure you wash and condition your hair as soon as possible after excessive exposure to the sea or chlorinated swimming pool water. A masque could help protect your hair so pop it in your beach bag and reapply regularly through the day.

We love: Aveda’s three step sun care range, from £18, The hair and body cleanser removes chlorine, salt and product build-up, the after-sun hair masque restores weakened hair and offers intense moisturisation, and the protective hair veil help protects the hair from sun damage and free radicals. And they all smell divine!

Nail it

Constant dips in and out of the water can be a match for any nail colour, and on-holiday touch-ups can be a faff so why not go au naturel on your nails instead? It will keep them healthier and you won’t have to worry about your nail varnish leaking all over your suitcase!

We love: The Scholl Velvet Smooth Electronic Nail Care System, £39.99,  The battery-operated 3-in-1 electronic nail file is designed for easy handling to file, buff and shine nails to leave them looking and feeling glossy and healthy.

Protect yourself

The most important thing you need when heading beach-wards is a good quality sunscreen. Check the label before you buy to ensure that it protects against both UVA and UVB rays and make sure you reapply regularly throughout the day, especially after swimming.

We love: Crème de la Mer, The Reparative Body Sun Lotion SPF 30 High, £70, As well as shielding the skin from harmful rays it also helps prevent the appearance of the signs of ageing on the body, renews the appearance of existing damage for firmer, healthier-looking skin and infuses the skin with moisture.
