Enjoy ambitious, experimental art and music at this year's Simple Things Festival...

Bristol’s renowned Simple Things Festival is almost upon us once more, with a full day of forward-thinking music to dive in to.

Based around Colston Hall, the multi-venue event will feature artists from across the musical spectrum, from dance to punk to pop to hip-hop and much, much more. You’ll be able to catch genuine musical legends alongside some of the freshest faces and brightest beats of tomorrow.

Colston Hall’s main stage will see performances from Death Grips, an American hip-hop group experimenting with convention and avant-garde sounds, L.A. psych-rock outfit Warpaint, fast-rising London troupe The Big Moon, and more. Charlotte Church is set for the festival too, bringing her uniquely fun ‘Pop Dungeon’ to Bristol for the first time — this is a show like no other! Dozens more DJs, producers, and live acts will be hitting the city’s stages throughout the day, with local stalwarts and international icons mixing it up until the wee hours.

As well as the main festival on Saturday 22 October, there’ll be an extra-special finale concert the day after. Horror master John Carpenter will be performing live, bringing his chilling soundtracks to life before your eyes — this is an incredibly rare chance to catch one of film’s true icons on the big stage. He’ll also be performing new compositions with a full live band and a wealth of visual goodies (or, more aptly, baddies).

For the first time this year, Simple Things will be presenting a series of performances, talks and art installations (supported by Arts Council England) around the festival. It’s called Simple Things EXT, and will feature some unique collaborations, including Planetarium Sessions at At-Bristol (17-19 October), Panel Discussions at the Watershed (21-22 October), and Ableton Masterclasses at Colston Hall (21-22 October). Famed audio-visual artist Tarik Barri will be presenting a “site-specific installation” between 20-27 October at a secret location
