This converted barn is something special, writes Sammy Milton

If you’re after breath-taking countryside views and peaceful rural surroundings, then stop what you’re doing and take a look at this outstanding property. This superb Grade-II listed stone-built barn is set in the desirable location of Norton Malreward and features flexible living and opulent spledour in every brick. Tythe Barn is a very special property just waiting to be snapped up.

Set back from the road by a long gravelled driveway, the fantastic conversion is immediately apparent – you can really see the quality of workmanship and design that has gone into creating this fantastic country retreat.

Set over two levels, you enter immediately into the open-plan living, kitchen and entertaining space. Featuring exposed stone walls and glossed tiled floors, there’s impressive full height oak framed glazing to the front and the rear. This space really is something – light floods in through the huge windows giving a bright, airy feel, and the modern, contemporary features juxtapose perfectly with the classic styling of the building. The main focus of this room is the bespoke Thomas and Thomas kitchen, which features a range of units in a horseshoe shaped configuration, with built-in appliances, granite work surfaces and a breakfast bar. An ideal space for cosy eating with the family or entertaining with friends.

This area also includes a large larder, a utility/boot room, a cloakroom with WC and an attractive snug/cinema room. This space is a lovely addition the property, and features more of the beautiful exposed stone and timber work and provides a wonderful place to hole up on colder days.

In turn, this space leads onto the hugely impressive living room. Flooded with light thanks to floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that lead out onto the outdoor terraces, this room is simply lovely. There’s period features in the form of stripped wooden flooring and a beautiful fireplace, you can really enjoy those views from here!

The first floor of the property is home to the three bedrooms and wet room.  Separated from the ground floor by a pretty galleried landing, the master bedroom is as lovely as you’d imagine. Featuring a vaulted ceiling with exposed roof trusses, there plenty of space and storage in the form of built-in wardrobes and dressers. What’s more, this room comes complete with a stylish en suite! The further two bedrooms are of an excellent size and are light and airy – an ideal lay out for a growing family. The contemporary bathroom-come-wetroom completes this floor with a Porselanosa suite, large wet room shower and a multi jet thermostatic shower.

Externally this property is just a pretty. Mainly laid to lawn, the grounds are landscaped with shrubs and bushes. Expect quality paving and exquisite terraces for al fresco dining and relaxing in the sunshine. The rear garden is especially impressive, with a Mediterranean style seating area and a large level lawn. There’s even a paddock area for those with horses, and, of course, those panoramic views.

Although a quiet area of the county, Norton Malreward is only four miles south of Bristol proper – you get the best of both worlds with this unique home, it’s definitely worth a good hard look.
