Upgrade your kitchen with the help of Bristol's kitchen experts

With Brexit creating a degree of uncertainty in the property market more and more people are looking to add value to their homes with home improvements.

And it seems that the kitchen is one of the most popular places to start (take a look at the facts and figures on page 3 of this week’s issue!).

Bristol has a range of kitchen suppliers offering designs to suit all tastes and budgets so if you’re thinking of giving your kitchen a makeover then take a closer look at what’s on offer!

Getting personal

Having a new kitchen is a very exciting venture but furnishing it with the right dining table, chairs, good lighting and accessories can be daunting. It doesn’t have to be however, with the help and advice of the expert team at Oskar Furniture.

The choice, for example, can be narrowed down by initially deciding a look you are drawn too, like the Scandinavian style with clean, simple lines in muted tones or Italian with bold colours and materials. There is no right or wrong – it is personal taste and what you would like to be surrounded with.

When going the calm route of white or muted coloured chairs with a natural wooden table a colour splash and/or an item of interest can be introduced – for example, a wow-factor light above the table. Alternatively, if you choose a brighter table and chair combination, the setting can be “calmed down” by pairing the furniture with a beautifully simple lined light, which gives off a very subtle light.

Classic and contemporary

Kitchens are fast becoming rooms that make style statements and people want a look that reveals something about their personalities as well as being on trend. Often it’s easy to get stuck in a design rut and be led by the masses, but Clinton and Fiona Patey from In-toto Kitchens keep up with the latest trends and can help steer you away from fads. Their invaluable help will turn your kitchen into a statement room that’s the envy of your friends. Their top tip is to: “Create an area of display, either wall mounted or a cluster on a shelf or a surface. Be a curator; pick things that work together by theme, material, colour or finish. Sometimes it helps to look beyond the function of an object and see instead its silhouette, colour or patina and how it looks next to other objects.”

You can see their work at their showroom on Whiteladies Road. It’s full of the latest trends in colour and open-shelf eclecticism, seamlessly melding upcycling with clean, contemporary lines.

Get on trend

The Kitchen Man in Clifton Village is now designing, selling, and fitting kitchens both from Comprex in Italy, and Rotpunkt in Germany, alongside their classic Bristol-made Shaker and contemporary kitchens. They have taken on the Italian company particularly because of their selection of 'on trend' extra-fat doors with integrated handles and their range of very thin brushed-aluminium doors, all of which are beautifully made and look amazing in today’s modern kitchens. Alongside built-in appliances, The Kitchen Man also specialises in Steel range cookers, hand-made in Italy. Full spacial and aesthetic design is done by Nick, their very own part-time chef.  He will focus on how clients cook and use their kitchen and this starts the whole project process. The full Kitchen Man team, with their own in-house fitters, will manage their clients’ complete kitchen project including all building and preparation works, flooring, appliances, through to the final touches that make every kitchen they work on completely individual to their client.
