Walnut Trees Cottage provides a respite from city life, writes Sammy Milton

If you’re looking for a country idyll, then look no further – this wonderfully characterful cottage is tucked away in a desirable location and it is a very rare find indeed.

Overlooking open ground and a pretty tree-lined hillside, Walnut Trees Cottage is steeped in history. Originally built in the 1820s as three detached cottages with a cobbler’s workshop, it has been loved throughout the years and period features have remained devotedly intact. It now comes to market as one stunning property – it’s in need of a little attention, but offers a whole load of prospects and potential.

Enter into the impressive reception hall and you’ll immediately come to the sizable dining room. Featuring carpeting throughout, exposed beams and lots of natural light, this is a great space for cosy winter dinners or evenings wining and dining friends.
The room in turn leads to the library – featuring a lovely fireplace with a wooden mantle over a tiled hearth, this room is every bookworm’s dream!

The living room includes another attractive fireplace, carpeting throughout and is a warm, inviting space. Fill this room with squashy armchairs and you’ll be all set to hunker down when it’s cold out! This room also features wooden French doors that open through to a rear porch, and further doors to a conservatory.

The conservatory itself is a wonderful space. Featuring pleasant views over the side and rear garden, it is full of natural light and provides yet another lovely room to either entertain guests or simply for you to relax in!

The kitchen/breakfast room is the real heart of the home. Bright and spacious, it features a range of attractive features including exposed beams, beech work surfaces, sash windows and an original, exposed stone wall. As well as this, there’s a stable door to the rear garden – a beautiful space mostly laid to lawn that’s set to stun in the summer months.

Upstairs you’ll find all four of the bedrooms. All of an excellent size, they feature pleasant views over the gardens and a multitude of period features. Expect to find sash windows, fireplaces and exposed beams up here, all adding to the historic charm of the home and making for very comfortable living indeed.

A family bathroom completes the interior accommodation, featuring a casement window to the side and rear, a panelled bath, wash basin, WC and a heated towel rail.

Externally this property is lovely. The rear garden is private and south-facing (which will make the most of the last of the sun), and there is an abundance of perennial plants, shrubs and bulbs plus fruiting trees and climbing roses. As well as the lawned area, there is an additional patio perfect for al fresco dining and a vegetable plot. If this wasn’t enough, there are also two stone outbuildings at your disposal! The front garden is equally as pretty, and is home to the beautiful walnut tree that this wonderful property is so aptly named after.
