Keep your skin glowing even after the summer sun sets
The summer is nearly over – boo! – so inevitably your skin will change. Your sun-kissed supple face is starting to become dry and irritated. How do you keep your dewey complexion in later seasons? Rule number 1 – perfect your base. Rule number 2 – perfect your face. We’ve got the best tips and tricks out there for glowing skin all year round.
Perfect your base
There’s no point buying expensive make-up if you’re not taking care of your skin. Protecting your base and having a decent skin routine is fairly easy and doesn’t need to cost the earth.
Hydration is key – sounds simple, right?
But a lack of H²O in our system can have an effect on our skin. Combine that with the increase in central heating… and voila! Our skin can dry out super quickly. Drink lots of water! Use different moisturisers at night – look out for products full of avocado oil and Vitamin C as these keep your skin in tip-top condition.
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!
For sensitive skin, exfoliate no more than once a week and avoid the eye area. Exfoliating can eradicate dull/lifeless looking skin (very common post-summer). Try using fruity, natural goodies, like a strawberry or oatmeal product.
The dreaded word but is key to getting the glow. Eat sweet potato, butternut squash and pumpkin – all full of vitamin C which is essential for skin repair AND they provide antioxidant protection for your skin. Seasonal veggies make a great winter warmer soup and are easy to make.
Try a face mask
Use a hydrating mask at least once a week to add nutrients to your skin.
Perfect your face
Now you’ve got the base all sorted you can work on getting a more, er, artificial glow. The minimalistic make-up look has been on trend for years and seems to be a phase that isn’t going anywhere. It’s a simple look to complete with high-street products.
Stop thinking TOWIE. We just mean a subtle duo face and neck overnight tanner. This adds a nice natural glow to work with.
The prime of life
Invest in a good quality primer. You can get one suitable for your skin, whether that be oily, sensitive or if you want to target big pores.
A good primer will set your foundation for the whole day and make it last longer!
A decent dewy foundation
Nothing too cakey. Just something lightweight and breathable that really fits your skin tone.
Your make-up best friend, highlighter can come in an easy-to-apply stick, a powder or a liquid. Use it to highlight the highest planes of your face, so the bridge of your nose, your brow bones and even the centre of your chin.
Less powder, more dew
Too much powder and all the glow you’ve just achieved will shy away under it. Try a light powder and just apply it to your T Zone if you’re worried about a shiny, oily face.
A finishing spray
Now that you’ve got the final product perfect, use a simple setting spray to seal the deal! Many high-street brands have setting sprays specifically for setting a dewy look.
