Bedminster's Windmill Hill City Farm turns 40 this month, and they're making sure they celebrate the milestone in style...

Bedminster’s agricultural institution, the Windmill Hill City Farm, is celebrating its 40th birthday with an appropriately huge bash! It’s served the area in countless ways since the mid-’70s and will be deservedly honoured this month.

To help the farm turn the big 4-0 in style, there’ll be a community fun day. There will be a chock-a-block day of family-friendly festivities, with a delectable selection of local food vendors, street grub, foodie favs and treat stalls. Arrive hungry and sample the gourmet array! There’ll be Farmer Tim’s BBQ (with rose veal burgers), Moorish’s flatbreads, a Wild & Rustic pop-up, Vee Double Moon ice creams, smoked Texan dishes, Mexican snacks and much, much more (including a smoothie-making bike!).

It’s not all focused on your bellies though, with live music, games and arts and crafts to entertain everyone! The APE Project will be bringing their wacky activities, Floriography has floral-themed fun, and you can get your hands messy with screen printing, puppet making, spoon carving and campfire cooking. There’s a full outdoor games field too, to satiate your competitive streak, plus singalongs and storytelling. It’s a packed day, so arrive early!

Local acts Max Harrison, Corky, Imprints, The Skimmity Hitchers and Dukes Of Mumbai are all due to showcase their musical wares, providing an ear-tingling backdrop for the party.

Windmill Hill City Farm was founded in 1976 by a group of local volunteers eager to recycle inner-city wasteland — they transformed the area into a thriving, beating community heart. As well as a fun day out for families and little ones, it also offers educational and therapeutic facilities and activities. There’s also a nursery for under fives and courses helping children prepare for the great outdoors.

The festivities take place on 24 September from 11am until 5pm, and entry is free. Oh, and there’s free birthday cake!
