Bristol in the Sky: Romys Kitchen

We speak to Romy Gill about her award-winning restaurant and Bristol in the Sky

Hi Romy, can you tell us a little bit about your restaurant?

Romy's Kitchen Thornbury is in the North of Bristol, where we try to give the customer the best of modern Indian food with a balance of flavours and best ingredients from South West.

Your restaurant is held in high regard and you were awarded an MBE for your services to hospitality in 2016. As well as this, you’ve also been a judge on Celebrity Masterchef and been a resident cook for the Guardian newspaper. Can you tell us a little bit about these experiences?

Receiving an MBE is such a huge honour as I never in a million years thought about receiving it. Yes, I want to win awards for my restaurant but it never crosses my mind about winning anything for myself.

Mina Holland gave me an amazing experience to be a resident cook and I put my heart and soul into it.

Being on MasterChef, Hairy Bikers and the Food Network gave me a wonderful platform to showcase about me and my restaurant – an experience I will never forget. For me, the best experience I have had is being a judge on Radio 4 for food and farming with talented people. I get to taste and meet extremely talented producers and then to create something in the restaurant.

What are you most looking forward to about Bristol in the Sky?

The experience of giving the dinners and my staff an experience they will never forget. I am bit nervous as I am not a fan of heights!

Finally, what can you tell us about the food that you are cooking for this event?

The food that people with get will be combination of fish, quail and goat biryani along with vegetarian food.
