Bristol Harbour Festival is just around the corner

One of the biggest events on Bristol's bustling festival calendar is back this month...

Bristol’s legendary Harbour Festival is just around the corner, with a packed weekend of fun for everyone! The city welcomes lots of festivals during the summer months, but arguably the most famous on the calendar is the Harbour Festival - one of the country’s largest free events, attracting thousands of visitors each day.

The city’s Harbourside area, from the Grain Barge to Castle Park, will be hosting the fun, putting on a fun-packed showcase of music, art, dance, poetry, circus skills, food and drink, as well as the usual array of decked-out boats and nautical extravagance. Expect a full range of on-water sights - the festival is expecting hundreds of boats, from majestic tall ships (some you might recognise from Hollywood blockbusters such as Alice In Wonderland) to Royal Navy vessels. The Western Boat Show is making an appearance this year as well.

The Outlook Orchestra will be helping launch the weekend this year, filling out the Amphitheatre with some symphonic magic -and a few big-name friends, including Roots Manuva, Loyl Carner, Congo Natty, Dawn Penn and the Newham Generals! The 20-plus-piece ensemble are also helping celebrate Colston Hall’s 150th birthday, and will play a ‘live mix’ honouring global soundsystems… you’ve never seen anything like this before! Tickets are available now from www.colstonhall.org.

As ever there’s plenty for children and families to do, with a fully-dedicated area at Castle Park entertaining all ages across the weekend. There’s set to be storytelling for the little ones and circus skill workshops from Cirque Bijou where you can have a go at slacklining or even the aerial trapeze!

Although the festival and many of its events are put on free of charge, some attractions and concerts do charge. You’ll also need a few pennies to sample the treats on offer in the markets, food stalls and bars...
