Clifton giant screen to stream live coverage of Tour of Britain
When the Tour of Britain cycle race sweeps into Bristol this weekend, there is no need to miss any of the action as Clifton Village will be home to a giant TV screen which will show all the action as the elite cyclists battle it out.
To celebrate the impending arrival of the Tour of Britain, a fleet of more than 26 brightly-decorated yellow bikes have been placed around Clifton Village, creating a two-wheeled sculpture trail within this iconic area of Bristol.
On Saturday 10 September, a giant mobile 19ft by 11ft screen will be erected on Gloucester Row at the top of the Mall facing Christchurch Green. Funded by BID Clifton Village, it will show live footage from 2pm to 5pm, covering the afternoon road race stage.
With chairs and deckchairs provided, spectators can relax in comfort and take in all the action. Between the time trial and road race a programme of entertainment will keep the crowd occupied and with Clifton Village being only a short walk away there will be plenty of opportunities to get a snack or drink or even fit in some retail therapy.
Tony Miles of Smiley Miley Events, organiser of the Clifton event and creator of the yellow sculpture bikes, commented: “The Tour of Britain is one of the largest public events in the UK and we want Clifton to be the place to watch it this year.
“We have an incredible opportunity as Bristol is hosting two stages of the race so we are inviting everyone to make the most of the occasion by putting on a full day’s entertainment for visitors. “
The morning time trials in Bristol start from 10am and will finish around lunch time. This will be followed by a six-lap, 75km circuit race in the afternoon from 2pm – 5pm.
This year The Downs will be both the start and finish of the event, using a course which takes in the Avon Gorge, the Avon New Cut and Cumberland Basin.
Cyclists will come over the Clifton Suspension Bridge to Leigh Woods before heading down to Bower Ashton, travelling along Coronation Road and Cumberland Road onto Hotwells, up Bridge Valley Road and back onto The Downs.
